Pageantry, contests, and other fanfare

DALTON, OH – As the holidays approach, festivities are building in preparation for the 37th Annual Dalton Holidays Festival, which is December 7 and 8 at Dalton High School. A few dates before the festival should be noted for those who may be interested in participating in our OFEA Queen's Program and in our annual contests.

The Queen's Program has long been a tradition with the Dalton Holidays Festival, and is an honor in which the nominated Queen and her royal court are able to travel Ohio representing our local community during their year tenure. Previous royalty have agreed that the experience is full of great opportunities for personal growth as well as unique ventures at festivals and events throughout Ohio. The process for interested ladies who are age 15-19 and live in the Dalton Local School district is to fill out and return an application by November 16. Applications and eligibility requirements for Queen are available at Dalton High School or on the festival website www.daltonfestival.org. The 2014 Queen and her attendants will be announced on Friday, December 6 during the Business Open House in downtown Dalton.

The Dalton Holidays Festival encourages businesses and homeowners within Kidron and Dalton city limits to participate in the lighting contest. Judging for this will occur after sunset on Tuesday, December 3. Winners of the Business and Residential Lighting Contest will receive a cash prize of $25 as well as acknowledgement by the festival.

Children in first through fourth grade have the opportunity to participate in the festival's annual coloring contest, which features this year's theme of "Country Christmas". All of these entries will be displayed during the festival, with a winner for each grade level chosen.

The annual Baking Contest will take place on Friday, December 6 at Dalton High School. Entries of all categories will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with judging categories for children and adults. Prizes will be awarded for multiple categories. For more information, visit the festival website at www.daltonfestival.org.

As far as contests taking place at the Dalton Holidays Festival, attendees will see the return of Turkey Bowling as well as Santa's Treasure Hunt. These events give extra options to those who are enjoying the craft show, entertainment, and baked goods at the Dalton Holidays Festival on December 7 and 8 at Dalton High School. There are many ways to enjoy the season at the Dalton Holidays Festival.
